OUT ON A LIMB

the summer that i turned eleven
i begged to be in my brother's club
he said that my only hope was to hang a rope
in that oak tree a mile straight up
so i held my breath and i said a prayer
i made that climb just so i could belong
i tied a rope out on a limb
and it's still holding strong

they say fools rush in, but you can't win
if you're afraid to try
each time someone says that i can't touch a star
you'll find me reaching for the sky
until you jump in the water
you can't know if you'll sink or swim
i got all that i hold dear to me
by going out on a limb

so i risked it all and i told you
how i truly feel
i've been wrong about love before
but i know this time it's real
so i held my breath and i said a prayer
your kiss told me i wasn't wrong
i took my heart out on a limb
and it's still holding strong
